Can Erectile Dysfunction be Fixed with Home Remedies?

Erection Problems Make Him Sad 400

The answer, like the answer to many of life's problems is... it depends.

The causes of erectile dysfunction can be many and varied, sometimes psychological but in most cases physical.

And so in most cases an effective erectile dysfunction remedy will also be physical. That could be a home remedy or a pill that acts to address the problem directly.

Let's talk about home remedies for erectile dysfunction. These will take the form of exercises. Some will be aimed at improving your general health and blood flow and, if required, helping you with weight and fat loss, as quite often erectile dysfunction problems are linked to obesity.

There are 5 types of exercises that form the basis home remedies for ED. They are:

Pelvic Floor Exercises

Aerobic Exercises

Pilates Exercises

Arab Jelqing

Edging

Each of these different types of erectile dysfunction exercises are examined briefly in this article, but you are also welcome to download our free book Exercises to Overcome Erectile Dysfunction, which goes into a lot more detail.

Erectile Dysfunction Home Remedy 1: Pelvic Floor

Pelvic Floor Exercises for Erectile Dysfunction

Pelvic floor exercises improve the strength of the pelvic floor muscles. These exercises are more commonly known as Kegel exercises. Women perform Kegels in preparation for and to regain muscle tone after childbirth. Kegels also promote urinary continence and sexual health. Kegel exercises can benefit both men and women.

In particular, they help to strengthen the bulbocavernosus muscle. This important muscle does three jobs: It allows the penis to engorge with blood during erection, it pumps during ejaculation, and it helps empty the urethra after urination. So it's an important muscle to target as part of an erectile dysfunction home remedy.

The best method for locating the muscles of the pelvic floor is to stop your stream several times in the middle of urination. The muscles you clench to do this are the ones you need to exercise.

To perform a rep of Kegel exercises, squeeze those muscles, hold for five seconds, then relax. Repeat this 10 to 20 times, two or three times a day. You may want to try this in different positions, including lying down with your knees up, sitting in a chair, and standing.

Erectile Dysfunction Home Remedy 2: Aerobics

Aerobics to Overcome Erectile Dysfunction

ED is often caused by blood flow problems to the penis. Obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, and vascular disease can affect blood flow and result in Erectile Dysfunction.

Adding aerobic exercise to your routine can improve your overall health and may lead to improvements in your ED.

Even brisk walking 30 minutes a day, three to four times a week, may be enough to change your cardiovascular health and impact your ED. People who practiced an aerobic exercise four times a week saw the best results, according to the authors of a 2018 systematic review.

The key to all of this is the endothelium, the inner lining of blood vessels that helps blood flow smoothly. The endothelium lines the blood vessels in the heart and the penis and regular exercise has been shown to improve the way the it works.

Each exercise session should be of moderate or high intensity and last a minimum of 40 minutes. Some examples of aerobic exercises include:

  • cycling
  • spin classes
  • boxing
  • rowing
  • running
  • skipping

You should keep up your aerobic exercise routine for at least 6 months or, better still, make it a regular part of your life going forward.

Other aerobic activities that you could consider as home remedies for erectile dysfunction include

  • Yoga
  • Salsa Dancing (Brilliant!)
  • Swimming and
  • Weight Training

According to research by Yale University students, swimming should be a prerequisite for all men who have an erectile dysfunction.

The intense muscle movement involved in swimming helps in reduction of the body’s general fatigue and stress. In addition, swimming brings about blood circulation and as a consequence enhances blood flow to the male reproductive system.

Since swimming is an enjoyable activity, it helps release hormones that stimulate overall sex drive in men.

Erectile Dysfunction Home Remedy 3: Pilates

Pilates to Aid Erectile Dysfunction

Pilates exercises activate the right group of muscles and challenge a person to maintain pelvic floor strength while moving.

This is a beginners’ exercise that involves small movements.

Lie down with the knees bent, the feet flat on the floor, and the arms by the sides.

Keep the spine in a neutral position, with a small space between the middle of the back and the floor.

Exhale, squeeze the pelvic floor muscles, and slowly lower one knee to the floor. Only lower it as far as possible while maintaining activation of the pelvic floor muscles. Keep the pelvis stable.

Inhale, release the muscles, and bend the knee again.

Repeat on the other side.

Start with four or five repetitions on each side and build up to ten.

The Pelvic Curl exercise builds on knee fallouts and involves small movements.

Lie down with the knees bent, the feet flat on the floor, and the arms by the sides.

Exhale, engage the pelvic floor muscles, and slowly raise one foot off the floor. Keep the pelvis and the spine still.

Inhale, lower the foot back to the ground.

Alternate sides.

Erectile Dysfunction Home Remedy 4: Arab Jelqing

Arab Jelqing

Jelqing, also known as milking, is the practice of pulling on your semi-erect penis to make it grow.

Jelqing is generally recommended for penis enlargement, but it can also help you with erectile dysfunction.

You’ll find that jelqing is a relaxing practice that enlarges the cells in your penis and makes them more susceptible to blood flow. This means that, yes, increasing your penis size will help with erectile dysfunction.

There are specific jelqing techniques, such as the wet jelq, the dry jelq, stretching and ballooning and they are all covered in our free book Exercises to Overcome Erectile Dysfunction.

Erectile Dysfunction Home Remedy 5: Edging

Edging for ED and PE

Edging (also called surfing, peaking, teasing, and more) is the practice of stopping yourself from reaching orgasm right when you’re on the cusp — the metaphorical “edge” right before you fall off the cliff into sexual climax.

Edging is primarily recommended for premature ejaculation, but it’s also great for erectile dysfunction. For the same reason as jelqing. Improving blood flow will improve your erection quality.

While jelqing/stretching works by expanding the blood cells in your penis, edging works by forcing blood into your penis.

To practice edging, masturbate, either solo or with the help of a partner, but don’t orgasm for 20-30 minutes. Use every fiber in your body to resist orgasming, but continue to masturbate.

The goal is to keep yourself at the edge of orgasm, to train you to last longer.

The reason this works for erectile dysfunction is that it forces blood into your penis, and keeps it there. Practice edging a few times, and you’ll soon understand.

You can practice edging solo or with a partner. As a technique, it has grown trendy in sexual health discussions as a form of “better orgasms,” but it’s actually more than a half-century-old treatment for premature ejaculation. In a 1956 paper published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, James H. Semans introduced the “stop-start method” to help people last longer before reaching orgasm.

Edging is one thing that helps with both premature ejaculation and as  home remedy for erectile dysfunction.
