HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:

This beautiful hard-cover edition of the Mindfulness in Plain English collection incorporates three works that provide a start-to-finish guide to Buddhist Meditation in a single book. Both a wonderful read and an impressive addition to your bookshelf.

This is the original best-seller by the Sri Lankan Theravada Buddhist monk Bhante Gunaratana. This edition was published in 2011. It has a 4.6 star rating on Amazon. Here is one review:

"Beautifully readable, down-to-earth, and full of wisdom without being esoteric and all mysterious. Tells mindfulness like it is, in all the ways it can work for you. The guy is legit (he sounds like a lovely American writer--no awkward English) and he's definitely an open-minded, non-sectarian Buddhist. Very useful, very helpful, very wise. - from a longtime explorer of Buddhist wisdom and many other spiritualities too, over 40 years.) This is the one you want (I've heard it recommended many times!)"

An anniversary collection, presented in a beautiful collector’s edition, of three of Bhante Gunaratana’s bestselling classics: Mindfulness in Plain English, The Four Foundations of Mindfulness in Plain English, and Beyond Mindfulness in Plain English. Here is a 5 star review:

"Mindfulness in Plain English is one of my most recommended books for anyone new to Meditation or Buddhism in general. This lovely hardcover edition is wonderfully high quality paper, printing, binding, and includes two additional works: Four Foundations of Mindfulness (a commentary on the Satipatthana Sutta) and Beyond Mindfulness (exploring the Jhana states of concentration). This creates a very complete, almost start-to-finish guide to Buddhist Meditation in a single book, highly readable and very down to earth for such lofty concepts."

In simple and straightforward language, Bhante Gunaratana shares the Buddha's teachings on mindfulness and how we can use these principles to improve our daily lives, deepen our mindfulness, and move closer to our spiritual goals. You might find this review helpful.

"This book is very, very good. You don't have to be an expert and/or even a Buddhist to benefit from this book. Anybody can use these techniques. The key is that they are "GROUNDING" techniques to help get you out of your head and/or get you out of the world. Get you back into your body. Amazing, ancient techniques. Not hard at all. It covers, basically, everything in Buddhism but also you "Do" these techniques. Anyway, if you don't like this stuff, don't bother. Myself, I love this stuff."

Countless people worldlwide have made Mindfulness in Plain English a beloved and bestselling classic in almost a dozen languages. Now after nearly two decades, Bhante helps meditators of every stripe take their mindfulness practice to the next level - helping them go, in a word, beyond mindfulness.

"Was looking for a book that explain meditation more on a pratical side. Since I'm note familiar with the buddhism terms/vocabulary, I have found this book delivering exactly what the title implies.
For more depth, I found Beyond Mindfulness by the same author to be more of what I was looking for. He take the time to explain what you might experience when you access concentration, access jhana, etc. I'm experiencing different things while meditating these days and was wondering if I was in jhana or not. Now I understand that it is access concentration, the stage just before entering jhana.
Of the two, Beyond mindfulness was more in depth and if you're looking for something that explains what to expect and to notice the signs, this one is more for you as I found for me =)"

Mindfulness reveals a set of simple yet powerful practices that you can incorporate into daily life to help break the cycle of anxiety, stress, unhappiness, and exhaustion. It promotes the kind of happiness and peace that gets into your bones. It seeps into everything you do and helps you meet the worst that life throws at you with new courage. The book is based on Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). Here's a review from an anxiety sufferer.

"This program has become my "parachute". I am 46 years old in excellent health and recently had succumb to severe anxiety that has been plaguing me for months. My doctor prescribed xanax which kept me functional but did not fix the problem. I struggled to sleep at night and had difficulty managing stress all day long. I was a nervous wreck. The doctor's solution was an anti-psychotic but I instead chose to start this program. After 4 weeks i was off the xanax and my mood improved significantly. After 2 months i was feeling very good but one night I experienced the beginnings of a panic attack for no apparent reason other than letting my mind run away. I immediately started a meditation and within seconds completely diffused what was going to be a runaway train. What was most surprising was how good i felt after the attack was arrested. I was concerned it was going to come back and it did not. I assume this is because I had learned to treat anxiety symptoms as "fake news". I learned to listen to my body and not to my brain which is the whole basis of the program and it absolutely works.

In addition, i found the guided audio superb. Mark Williams voice and guidance truly relax you. They tend to relax you so much that i sometimes found it difficult to stay awake. Don't read that as "boring" but rather it will take you from a state of anxious to calm and relaxed. I wish i could meet this guy to shake his hand and say thank you."
