"Built for Comfort"

"Well, you're definitely built for comfort, not for speed, aren't you?" he said.
The worst thing was he meant it as a compliment ... I think!
But I just wanted to pull the bedclothes over my head and disappear ...
It was a year after my divorce and yes, I'd stacked on a few pounds.
Too much "comfort" food will do that.
Along with binge watching Netflix series while binge eating junk food "snacks".
Jodie Creates a Profile
My best friend Jodie insisted that I needed to get back into the dating game.
So she took the liberty of creating a profile for me on a dating site, using a two year old head shot photograph.
I wasn't totally on-board, but she was really insistent and I just didn't have the energy to put up much of a fight.
Anyway, I figured how bad could it be?
I was about to find out!
On my friend's advice, I started off with "pre-date" coffees,
A chance to evaluate the potential, if you like.
Jason
Jason was an out-and-out narcissist. He had absolutely no interest in me and talked about himself the whole time. Including how previous girlfriends thought he was wonderful.
Also, turned out he lived with his mother (who presumably also thought he was wonderful 😍).
Chris
Chris was simply too much, too soon. Admittedly he had a great body, but did he really need to text me a nude pic of it (with a "what do you think of this?" caption) before we'd finished our coffee?
I politely told him I'd think about it, paid for both coffees and left.
Mark
After Jason and Chris, Mark was a breath of fresh air.
We hit it off straight away and followed up with two more "real" dates, the first to see a live show (turned out to be a common interest and we had some great conversation about past shows we'd both seen) and the second date a nice restaurant with Mark insisting on paying the bill.
So it seemed only reasonable that I offer to cook a meal for both of us at my place the next evening.
The Hidden Agenda
And yes, with an underlying agenda that we both recognized ...
OK, let's just cut to the chase here.
Everything went as planned and yes, I finally ended the 12 month drought since my divorce.
And yes, I enjoyed it.
Until ...
Devastation
"Well, you're definitely built for comfort, not for speed, aren't you?" he said.
I'll never forget the bewildered look on his face when I made it obvious that I'd really prefer that he left now and made some excuse to avoid setting up a next date.
I'd been quite athletic in my younger days and just couldn't hack the fact that Mark, no matter how he expressed it, thought I was fat or (as they say nowadays) plus-size or BBW.
Naturally, I cried on Jodie's shoulder and, during a sisterhood moment, she admitted to once having had a similar experience.
Now Jodie is TTT (Trim, Taut and Terrific) goes to the gym and cycles regularly so I found it hard to believe.
"It's true," she said. I let myself go a few years back, and lost all motivation to reverse it."
Java Burn
"The thing that saved me was a supplement called Java Burn. I still take it. It's tasteless and you just add it to your morning coffee. You start dropping weight immediately and your energy level goes way up too, so you want to start exercising again. It's a double-barrel whammy."
So to cut a long story short, I decided to give it a go.
Renewed Energy
And wow, I dropped 5 lbs in the first week and had enough energy to start walking again.
Just 20 minutes a day at first, but by the end of the week that had become an hour. An hour that I now really looked forward to and that set me up for the rest of the day.
And when Jodie called to ask if I wanted to start bike riding with her and her current boyfriend, I said yes, as soon as I get my old bike serviced.
Turned out it needed a new chain, new tires and all the cables lubed, but after that, it ran almost like new.
So now I've added a weekend bike ride to my daily walks and I can't describe how much better I feel.
More Weight Loss
Plus I'm still losing weight!

P.S. I'm not active on the dating site at the moment. Or at least not yet. But I'll be ready soon to head back into that world with renewed confidence. All thanks to Java Burn.
