How to Use Fiverr for Freelancing
In my previous post, I examined the question Is Freelancing the Ideal Gateway for Seniors Online Business? as it can be a relatively easy way for a senior to leverage their considerable work and life experience into an online income.
Without having to learn how to build a website, integrate an autoresponder or engage a web host.
All of which may come later, of course as the senior builds up confidence and knowledge.
With the ultimate aim of making passive income.
But that still leaves us with the how? How do you put your particular skill and expertise out there where the people who need it can find you, order from you and, of course pay on delivery?
Fiverr is a mature platform that has been around for many years and can be a great place for senior freelancers to promote their services.
Start by Joining Fiverr
Go to fiverr.com and click on Become a Seller.
You can join from your existing Facebook, Google or Apple account or you can enter an email address and then choose a username and password.
Fiverr will send an email to your specified email address containing a link. Click on the Activate Your Account button in the email. This will take you directly to your new Fiverr account, ready to start advertising your services.
Now the account will come up as if you are buying a service, but it's worthwhile exploring to see what others are offering.
Find a category that suits your experience and expertise and look at individual gigs. That will give you a good idea of how the offer is worded and what price is being charged. Often, you'll find different levels of service at different price points.
This exercise can be very helpful in crafting your own offer.
Note that the more experienced sellers will have review stars and feedback. These have a big influence on the seller's success. You won't have that when you're starting off, so you'll probably have to compete on price until you get a reputation.
Selling on Fiverr
As an example, here are some sellers offering SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and Website Content services. Note the wide variety of prices, the star ratings and the number of reviews. Obvious also is the importance of an attractive illustration.
Don't worry. None of this is difficult to do.
To get started, scroll down until you see the heading Support and underneath it, click Selling on Fiverr.
This brings you to the How to Start Selling on Fiverr screen, which gives you everything you need to know.
It's divided into several sections that take you through the whole journey to becoming a Fiverr seller, with your own offering being exposed to the many thousands of visitors that Fiverr attracts every day. The sections are:
- Creating your seller profile
- Creating your Gig
- Buying and selling using the mobile app
- Video requirements overview
- Offering Packages
- Upselling - monetizing your Gig
- Sending custom offers/buyer requests
- Tips for success
- Promote your freelance business
- Free course: Be a successful seller
Create Your Gig
By all means, go through all of the valuable information available on Fiverr.
But it can be a rabbit hole.
My recommendation is to avoid "paralysis by analysis" and jump into creating your gig and launching it, even if you don't feel that you're at that stage yet.
You'll have a real feeling of accomplishment and a boost in confidence once that's done. You can always go back, edit and refine it as much as you like.
If you go to the Creating Your Gig section as explained above, you should find the image shown to the left. Click on the Creating Your Gig link to be taken to step by step instructions.
The first thing you must do to become a seller is complete your personal profile.
Just follow everything through step by step and you'll have your first Fiverr gig published in no time.
