Free and Paid Tools and Technology You Need

Free and Paid Tools

The second thing you need to know about minimizing your risk as a senior pursuing an online business is how to access free and paid tools or technology that you're going to need to run your business.

Depending on the business model you choose, which we'll get into in a minute, you may or may not need your own website. If you do, you're going to want to get a domain name and a hosting account.

When you are purchasing a domain name, always go to Google and look for: coupon code [company name]. So for instance you might look up GoDaddy coupon code. If it's your first time buying a domain, you can get one for just $0.99 for the first year.

When you are checking out with your domain, don't add any additional items into the cart, because those will usually be included in your hosting account anyway. Then, go to a reputable hosting company and find the cheapest package possible to get started, such as a hatchling plan on HostGator.

You don't need anything more than this when you are just starting out. Plus, you can always add on later if you need something like more bandwidth for your website. There's no reason to pay for this ahead of time if it's not needed.

You also don't need to pay for expensive website builders. You can install WordPress for free and use free themes that look very professional and polished for your domain. There are free tutorials online that will show you exactly how to install WordPress and it only takes a few seconds.

You also need an email autoresponder system. You want to go with something reputable like AWeber, MailChimp or GetResponse. Most of these companies will have either a trial timeline or allow you to use the system for free up to a certain number of subscribers, like 500 people.

That way, you can use this tool for free until you begin profiting and can pay for it on your own. Keyword tools are another thing that many senior marketers spend money on when they don't have to.

You can find free keyword tools, those with a trial timeline, or even use autofill on platforms like Google and Amazon where you begin typing in a phrase and it fills in the options that are commonly looked up by others.

This will be plenty to get you started, and at a later date you can do some research to find a full suite keyword tool that has all of the bells and whistles you've been looking for.

A good graphic builder is something you may or may not need in your online business. If you are creating your own eBooks or even using social media, you may want to have graphics, but you don't have to pay money for a tool or even outsource it to a freelancer.

You can use a popular tool that has both a free and paid version such as Canva. There are also free stock image sites that you can use to get the pictures for your graphics without having to pay a cent.

Social media accounts are going to be something else you need for your online business. You don't have to pay for them, and you can sign up for something like Facebook and not only have your own profile, but a professional business page and even multiple groups where you cater to the needs of your own customers.
